Purple Hearts – Millions Like Us/Beat That (7″)

Purpleband

MORE SEVEN INCHES !!!

Keeping a bit of a Mod flavour ! Or even a Mod Revival or Punkmod! These were named after an amphetamine-barbiturate mixture popular with the mods of 1960s. This was their debut single from 1979 and kinda sounds like some modern Indie now. You can still catch them on the tour circuit, usually on a double header with Secret Affair. B-side “Beat That” is even better, rawer guitar/vocals.

Talk Talk – Give It Up (12″)

Ttlive

A great forgotten Talk Talk track from 1986 but unfortunately no different from the album version although you do get Steve Winwood on Hammond organ. It’s backed by 2 version of “Pictures Of Bernadette” (Dance Mix and 7″ version) The Dance Mix has plenty of precussion but the random edit of the song ruins it for me, I prefer the 7″. Great bassline tho!

STAY TUNED!!!

Cabaret Voltaire – Hypnotised (12″)

A break from the 7″ sesh and this Cabs track from 1989. (I nearly put this on the wrong blog!)

This is the poppy , Chicago house influenced Cabaret Voltaire and it took a bit of getting used to. The Daniel Miller mix is the most synth pop. Robert Gordon’s mix is a more tougher dance version.
